Diarrhoea, typhoid raging

BAJURA, MAY 11 -
The number of people suffering from diarrhoea and typhoid in Bajura district is on the rise.
Ram Chandra Yadav, acting chief of District Public Health Office (DPHO), said more than 100 patients, most of them suffering from diarrhoea, visit his office on a daily basis. “Contaminated water and sanitation problems are main causes of the diseases,” he said.
Most of the water sources in the district are contaminated and water pipes are damaged in many places, said Tulashiram Rokaya of Federation of Drinking Water and Sanitation Users’ Nepal. “People are compelled to drink filthy water, which causes such diseases,” he said. Doctors of DPHO said water is not safe to drink. Yadav said their requests to the authorities concerned to ensure supply of pure water in the district have not been heeded so far.
